Phytocannabinoids In a Nutshell

What are phytocannabinoids and why, as a CBD consumer, should you care about them?

What is the difference between cannabinoids and phytocannabinoids and what are the most common types of phytocannabinoids found in the hemp plant?

The Most Common Phytocannabinoids

While we usually refer to the likes of CBD, CBG and CBN, as cannabinoids, they are in fact phytocannabinoids, but the differences between cannabinoids and phytocannabinoids are so minimal that, for the CBD consumer, there’s no real need or advantage to be gained from understanding those differences.

What is important to know is that phytocannabinoids differ greatly from endogenous cannabinoids.

The first are naturally-occuring compounds found in the resin of the hemp plant and the second are the cannabinoids that are organically produced by the body’s endocannabinoid system.

In simple terms, a phytocannabinoid is the definition applied to any cannabinoid that’s produced within the trichomes of the hemp plant.

When a phytocannabinoid is extracted and consumed, no matter the consumption method, it begins to interact with our body’s cannabinoid receptors. A number of differing therapeutic effects take place, thanks to these interactions.

To date, we know that there are at least 100 different phytocannabinoids in the hemp plant, each of which affect the body in a slightly different way.

How Many Phytocannabinoids are there?

To date, more than 80 phytocannabinoids have been identified by scientists in the hemp plant.

However, common belief is that the plant is home to many more that we simply haven’t discovered yet. As previously mentioned, the phytocannabinoids that we know most about include CBD, CBG and CBN.

How do Phytocannabinoids Benefit the Human Body?

While research into the medicinal benefits of the hemp plant continues, it’s safe to say that we already have a fair amount of solid information on the most common phytocannabinoids.

This information is helping us to understand how they support the body and what kind of role they can play in our fitness and wellness routines.

For example, CBG is one of the phytocannabinoids known for its therapeutic qualities.

Studies on the effects of CBN have presented this particular phytocannabinoid as one in possession of great sedative capabilities.

CBD is the phytocannabinoid that is found in most abundance in almost all hemp strains and has become a popular go-to hemp plant compound for a whole range of wellness solutions, particularly since the federal legalization of hemp cultivation at the end of 2018.

None of the abovementioned phytocannabinoids are psychoactive, which means as consumers we are able to experience all of the wellness benefits they have to offer without worrying about getting high.

What Are Phytocannabinoids?

Can Phytocannabinoids Cause Addiction?

Despite common misconception, most phytocannabinoids are not addictive. The exception to the rule applies to THC, which is the psychoactive phytocannabinoid found in marijuana.

But any products extracted from the hemp plant are required, by law, to not contain more than 0.3% (and no more than 0,1% in some states) of this particular phytocannabinoid, thus keeping the consumer free from possible concerns related to addiction.

Phytocannabinoids and the Active Lifestyle

At Get Evoke, we dedicate all our time and effort to the curation of hemp extract products so that they contain the exact combination of phytocannabinoids required to help and support a full range of active lifestyle choices.

What does this mean, exactly..?

Bath Bombs

After a heavy workout at the gym, or a long run late at night, it can be difficult to bring the body and the mind back down to a serene level.

Our carefully curated line of CBD-rich bath bombs helps achieve this mellow state.

The combination of phytocannabinoids in our products is designed to relax sore muscles and breathe peace and calm into the mind as the day winds down.

We’ve also developed two specialist topicals for anyone looking to match CBD with an active lifestyle.

CBD roll-on

The first is a CBD-rich roll-on product, called Relieve. It’s a cute, convenient freeze gel, designed to rub into problematic muscle areas without any hassle and wherever you happen to be. It’s a product that doesn’t just rely on the expert work of the phytocannabinoids, but also on its user-friendly design.

No need to get hands messy with this product, because the rub and roll action takes care of everything for you.

CBD warming salve

Our salve, on the other hand, has been carefully crafted to include the exact proportion of phytocannabinoids needed to help keep muscles relaxed and ready for action.

In contrast to the roll-on, our salve is a warming botanical solution, designed to penetrate through a warming effect.

We also offer three specialist CBD-rich tinctures in three intensity variations: 500mg, 1000mg and 1500mg, the last of the three being the most potent.

More on understanding CBD potency here.

Our tinctures are designed to act as a daily supplement and support those with an active lifestyle to maintain optimum body balance.

As with all tinctures, you’ll need to run through a process of trial error until you hit the sweet spot for your body and your specific type of active routine, and our team is of course happy and willing to help guide you along the way.

Endocanabinoid System

What is the Endocannabinoid System?

In This Article

The endocannabinoid system, or the ECS for short, is a biological matrix within the human body that’s responsible for interacting with the many varieties of cannabinoids found within the hemp plant.

So, let’s take the opportunity to break things down and get a real feel for the role of the endocannabinoid system via this endocannabinoid system 101.

human body and the ECS

Is the Endocannabinoid System Real?

First up, let’s just make it clear that, while we still don’t know all there is to know about the endocannabinoid system, it is most definitely real.

When researchers first began to explore the composition of THC in more detail – one of the most wellknown cannabinoids found in the hemp plant – they stumbled across the endocannabinoid system at the same time.

So far, we know that, above and beyond its innate desire to want to interact with cannabinoids, it also plays a key role in the regulation of a number of bodily funcions, including sleep, mood, appetite, memory, reproduction, and fertility.

But our understanding doesn’t go much farther than that at present.

No doubt, we haven’t come anywhere close to the full extent of endocannabinoid system discovery and to finding out what this biological system is truly capable of.

How does the Endocannabinoid System Work?

The three essential components of the endocannabinoid system are as follows:

  • Endocannabinoids
  • Endocannabinoid and cannabinoid receptors
  • Enzymes

When we consume a CBD product or a hemp plant extract, the endocannabinoid system receptors immediately bind with the cannabinoids found in the product.

They also bind with the endocannabinoids that your body naturally produces, but more on those later.

The body then uses the system’s enzymes to break down all cannabinoids and endocannabinoids into a form that the human body can absorb.

The content is then projected throughout the central nervous system, including the brain, and the peripheral nervous system, and we begin to feel the results.

Endocannabinoids and the human body

Endocannabinoids and Cannabinoids: What’s the difference?

Cannabinoids are made by and found in the hemp plant. They are used in the formulation of a wide array of products, including topicals, tinctures, edibles, pre-rolls, bath bombs, softgels, and concentrates.

But the fascinating thing is that the human body has the ability to create its own set of cannabinoids. These human-created cannabinoids are what we call endocannabinoids.

The full, scientific term for endocannabinoids is endogenous cannabinoids. They are, quite simply, molecules similar in form and function to cannabinoids, but cleverly made by you and your body. Anandamide (AEA) and 2-arachidonoylglyerol (2-AG) are the two specific endocannabinoids that have been discovered and named to date.

What is the Endocannabinoid System?

The Endocannabinoid System and the Brain

While it was initially believed to only connect to the body’s nervous system, scientists now reveal that components of the endocannabinoid system are abundantly and widely distributed throughout the human brain (in fact, those of all mammals) and help to monitor and adjust the functions of a range of important neurotransmitters.

These brain-located components have been found in areas related to memory, motor, and mood.

As such, it seems fairly logical that a dysfunction of the endocannabinoid system could then be linked to a range of diseases that display worrying symptoms related to memory, motor, and mood.

human brain and endocannabinoid system

The Endocannabinoid System and CBD

One of the most wellknown cannabinoids found in the hemp plant is cannabidiol, usually referred to as CBD.

It has become increasingly more popular over the last decade, earning a reputation for itself as the cannabinoid that offers all the benefits of the hemp plant without getting you high.

In general, it can be relied upon for inducing few negative effects on the human body and it’s fast becoming a go-to ingredient for wellness products and for those who enjoy an active lifestyle.

However, scientists aren’t really that sure about the specifics of CBD and how it interacts with the endocannabinoid system. The only real thing that experts seem to be able to confirm is that CBD doesn’t bind to endocannabinoid receptors in the same way that THC does.

One possible conclusion is that CBD in fact prevents endocannabinoids from being broken down by the system’s enzymes, which in some way manages to intensify the effects of other cannabinoids on the human body.

This is one of the main reasons why so many of the industry’s brands now choose to stipulate the CBD to THC ratio of their products, hailing each ratio for a different use.

Another train of studies leads experts to believe that CBD binds to a receptor that we simply haven’t discovered yet and that, when we do, will open the portal to a much greater understanding of this incredibly versatile and beneficial cannabinoid.

Central nervous system

What about Endocannabinoid System Deficiency?

So, what happens when the endocannabinoid system isn’t working properly?

Well, nothing has been proven to date, but studies are exploring the notion that endocannabinoid system deficiency results in sick, depressed, and generally not very happy human beings.

In particular, Ethan Russo M.D., Director of Research and Development of the International Cannabis and Cannabinoids Institute, claims that clinical endocannabinoid deficiency might shed some light on irritable bowel syndrome, fibromyalgia, migraine, and other treatment-resistant syndromes.

So, What’s Next for the ECS?

We know that the endocannabinoid system is present in every major area of the human body, and so logic dictates that, when it malfunctions, it could be the cause of a variety of conditions. Interesting, right?

Only time, and dedicated scientific analysis, will help shed some light. We’ll keep you informed.

CBD Potency Explained – Why CBD Concentration Matters

In This Article

  • Why does the concentration or level of CBD in any given product matter?
  • How do you choose between the different concentrations available?
  • What makes one CBD product more potent than the next?
  • How do you select the exact CBD potency to match your specific need?

If you need help working out the best time to take CBD oil, or the best way to take CBD oil, and how to manage the dosage of other CBD products, then read on.

CBD Potency Explained - Why CBD Concentration Matters

CBD Percentage | Understanding Products and Packaging

For anyone new to CBD, it’s the information found on the packaging that can sometimes be the most daunting. Sometimes there’s lots of information, at other times there’s very little. There’s usually some basic references related to ingredients and instructions for use, and some brands include information of a creative kind to help inspire your choice of product purchase at the checkout.

But the most important information on CBD packaging, particularly for anyone new to the industry, relates to potency and this information is shared via CBD milligrams.

At its most basic, CBD potency is best explained in the following way:

The higher the milligrams, the more potent the product and the greater the concentration of CBD it contains.

For example, a CBD oil that has 1500mg of CBD is three times as potent as an oil that has 500mg.

Therefore, if you drop 1ml of a 1500mg CBD oil under your tongue, the effect that dose has on your body is likely to be greater than 1ml of a 500mg CBD oil.

A standard oil comes in a 30ml bottle. So, with 1500mg of CBD in 30ml of carrier oil, you’re looking at 50mg of CBD per 1ml dosage or 25mg of CBD per 0.5ml dosage

Make sense?

That said…

Having said all that, one of the most widely-agreed statements about CBD, and cannabinoids in general, is that each body will react in an entirely individual way. This is one of the reasons why CBD dosing isn’t straightforward and one of the reasons why many consumers choose to micro-dose, especially at the beginning. But we digress.

Using a CBD Dosage Chart

So, “how much CBD should I take?” or “how many drops of CBD oil should I take?” we hear you ask. Once you’ve figured out how many mg are in a 1ml dosage of your favorite CBD oil, you can use a CBD oil dosage calculator chart to gauge how many mg you should take. CBD dosage charts cross-reference the potency of the product with the weight of the consumer to give a recommended dose in CBD mg.

Weight Dosage for Mild Effects Dosage for Moderate Effects Dosage for Strong Effects
Less than 130 lbs. 11 mg or less 12 mg to 14 mg 15 mg to 17 mg
130 to 230 lbs. 18 mg or less 19 mg to 23 mg 24 mg to 27 mg
Over 230 lbs. 23 mg or less 24 mg to 30 mg 31 mg to 45 mg

How to Take CBD Oil

CBD oil is packaged and presented to the consumer in the form of a tincture. The CBD oil is placed under the tongue, administered via a dropper that comes along with the bottle. Some consumers don’t like the taste of CBD oils, even when flavored using herbs, fruits or other ingredientes, like vanilla, to mask the raw taste. As such, it’s fairly common to see people adding a few drops of CBD oil to their morning juice or afternoon coffee.

how to drop cbd

What about other CBD Products?

While tinctures are some of the most popular CBD products on the market, CBD oils are used to make a whole host of solutions, useful to the consumer in a variety of ways. CBD-infused topicals – creams, salves, balms, and the like – are becoming more common place in the skincare industry and among those who regularly participate in active lifestyles.

Daily skincare rituals, products designed for muscle support and relaxation, or CBD gels packaged as handy roll-ons and useful to people who enjoy regular fitness routines, are just some of the options available. CBD bath bombs are a fun option, full of aromatic power, to use after a heavy workout at the gym. CBD softgels tend to be the most convenient form of CBD to use when out and about as part of a regular wellness routine.

CBD Potency Explained - Why CBD Concentration Matters

When should you take CBD?

A question that many people ask is, “should I take CBD oil in the morning or at night?” While there’s no definite answer to this question, it’s important to choose a time of day that works for you and your body.

Some people report feeling more tired and more relaxed after consuming their daily dose of CBD, which makes consumption better suited to the evening time in preparation for sleep. Others feel more relaxed at work and better equipped to deal with the stresses of the day when combining their regular daily routine with a morning dose of CBD.

It all really depends on your body and your needs.

And for those of you wondering, “how often should I take CBD?” the answer follows the same principles.

Each body is different and responds to CBD in its own unique way. However, for anyone new to CBD, it’s a good idea to start slow and begin with just one dose of CBD per day, recording how the solution makes you feel as you go.

Incorporating the Use of CBD Post-Workout

If you follow fitness influencers on social media, you may have heard some buzz around CBD for fitness routines. Many CBD advocates believe that this hemp-derived compound can help lower your stress levels and improve muscle healing, as well as offer a number of other benefits that directly support fitness and wellness routines.

In fact, a number of celebrities, including Jennifer Aniston, have publically celebrated the regular inclusion of CBD in their fitness and wellness routines, particularly as a complement to the standard post-workout.

CBD for Fitness Innovation

Whether you’re about to launch into a new exercise routine, or you’re a hard-seasoned keep-fit-fanatic, your muscles need tender loving care. At the beginning of 2020, the CBD industry is one of the most innovative industries to date.

CBD product formulation over the past few years has been a super hot topic and we’ve seen, nationwide, the launch of CBD products across a wide range of existing industries. The world of fitness and wellness is no exception.

Muscle solutions for quick application, CBD soft gels for easy ingestion, CBD-infused freeze gels to help calm the body after intensive experiences, tinctures to help get you into the fitness mood, CBD roll-ons for a hands-free post-workout routine, and CBD sprays that feel cooling to the touch. The list goes on and will no doubt continue to expand and surprise us as 2020 kicks into gear.

CBD On-The-Go

The creation of specialist products like soft gels, roll-ons, pocket-sized balms, and high-intensity sprays, have made it easy, fun, and trendy to include CBD products in all kinds of fitness routines. Even when we have little time to concentrate on post-workout recovery.

Twist, open, select, and swallow. That’s all that’s needed to ingest a CBD soft gel as you’re walking out of the gym, or out of the yoga studio, and traveling onward to work.

CBD products are available in a range of sizes, making it easy to choose a small 30mg topical to throw into your gym bag or even your work bag for use at a later, more convenient time of day. The size and ease of use of CBD products is what makes them particularly discrete; another reason for their booming popularity countrywide.

Smoke Your Way Down

If you happen to enjoy a relaxing smoke after a heavy workout, you might want to try swapping out your usual smoke for a premium, CBD-rich pre-roll. More or more strains are coming onto the market and for many people, even the fittest among us, there’s nothing like a smoke to help bring things down and get focused for the next part of the day.

Naturally, CBD hemp flower is also available in loose form and is normally sold in eighths or one gram bags, so if you like to roll your own, the option with CBD is there for the taking. It’s also a good idea to stick with indica-dominant strains when it comes to post-workout purposes.

Indica strains tend to work best for recovery purposes, owing to their special blend of terpenes and cannabinoids. They’re the group of strains that most help to bring the body back down into a calming state of relaxation and unwind.

Incorporating the Use of CBD Post-Workout

A Relaxing CBD Routine

CBD bathbombs are perhaps one of the most relaxing ways to bring your wellness or fitness routine to a careful and natural end. Sore muscles, tired limbs, a racing heart, and an even faster-racing brain, can all benefit from slipping into a CBD-infused bathsoak.

The fun element of a CBD bathbomb is being able to choose from a range of aromas.

The CBD industry has become just as creative as the regular beauty industry when it comes to bath bomb magic, offering scents that go from creamy vanillas and chocolate limes, to zesty lemons and floral explosions.

While a CBD bath bomb might not offer the kind of quick, easy, on-the-go post-workout solution that you can get from products like soft gels and roll-ons, it definitely provides one of the most indulgent. If you workout in the evenings and you need a soothing way to bring your body and mind back down into relax-mode in preparation for a good night’s sleep, the CBD bath bomb may well be the useful and effective remedy you’ve been searching for.

CBD and the Basics

Remember that products made from hemp-derived CBD contain 0,3% or less of the psychoactive cannabinoid called tetrahydrocannabinol, or better known as THC, which means that they don’t get you high. This remains the case even when you choose to smoke CBD in the form of CBD-rich hemp flower.

It’s for this reason that the decision to incorporate CBD into our wellness and fitness routines is becoming more and more popular. We’ve no doubt that the trend will continue as we surge forward into 2020. For more information about the use of CBD for post-recovery purposes, feel free to contact the Get Evoke team directly.

How to Enjoy CBD While Maintaining a Fit, Active Lifestyle

In today’s busy world, it can be hard to find time for personal self-care. Many people think that they’re too busy to maintain a fit, active lifestyle.

If you prioritize diet and exercise, you’re on top of the ball. Even experts recognize the value of maintaining fitness and activity on a regular basis. That’s why you take the time to find the best fitness routine that suits your needs.

These days, it’s popular practice to consume CBD one way or another. If you already live an active lifestyle, it makes sense that you might be wondering how CBD can play into your routine.

The good news, then, is that you’ve come to the right place by reading this article. Detailed below is everything you need to know about maintaining your fitness regime while consuming CBD. By maintaining a healthy balance, you don’t have to give up either one.

How to Enjoy CBD While Maintaining a Fit, Active Lifestyle

See How CBD Affects Your Regular Workout Routine

Perhaps you’re a person who prefers high-intensity workouts. If that’s the case, using CBD before, during, or after those workouts might be of interest to you. Take the time to explore how the use of CBD in its many forms can best support your regular routine.

No matter how you use your preferred type of CBD product, be attentive to its effects on your physical fitness routine. The key is to always listen to your body and its needs.

When you combine an active lifestyle with CBD consumption, take note to avoid a high dosage. Begin by incorporating small doses into your routine and monitoring how each dose supports your active lifestyle.

Gradually increase the dose until you feel that you’ve reached the best complement for you, your body, and your workout style.

In fact, an important practice that might benefit your health routine is to seek advice a doctor versed in the use of CBD. He or she will be able to help you establish the ideal fitness regime that suits your abilities and goals. Seeking this guidance will go a long way to ensure that your physical fitness routine remains positive and incorporates CBD in the most effective way.

Don’t Worry – CBD Doesn’t Get You “High”

Most people know that smoking marijuana causes a euphoric “high.” But fewer people realize that CBD, although one of the cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant, does not get you high.

When you consume hemp-derived products, in any of their forms, and rich in CBD, you don’t have to worry about getting high. Products high in CBD can be found in various forms, including oils, edibles, sprays, gels, creams, and even smokable hemp flower. And while there’s no need to be gluttonous over it, no amount of CBD will ever get you high.

What is true, however, is that some people who consume CBD report experiencing an associated “buzz”, similar to a caffeine buzz, for instance. In some ways, that buzz is the result of increased levels of focus, which are a direct result from the inclusion of CBD in your regular routine.

By the year 2022, it’s estimated that the sales of CBD products will generate around $1.8 billion in revenue. In other words, the CBD product industry isn’t going anywhere any time soon. More and more people are discovering its uses, one of which being the inclusion of CBD as part of a fitness or wellness routine. So, why not hop on board with this rising trend to see how CBD products can be incorporated into your particular active lifestyle routine?

How to Enjoy CBD While Maintaining a Fit, Active Lifestyle

Remember to Watch Your Eating Habits and Get Plenty of Sleep

Don’t forget about everything else you need to do to maintain your active lifestyle. As you explore how CBD affects your fitness regime, take detailed notes. Track and measure your progress in reaching your fitness goals while you use CBD and discuss what you track with a fitness professional.

In addition, continue to monitor your appetite and diet. Eating habits are of particular importance when it comes to maintaining energy levels and proper nutrition. Otherwise, your high-intensity workouts might have no effect on your overall wellness.

Be sure to prioritize regular and solid sleep. It’s in everyone’s best interest to find time for at least seven hours of restful sleep each night. You may well find that it helps to consume CBD before your bedtime to see how it can improve sleeping patterns, particularly if you find it hard to come down at night after high-intensity training programs.

There are a variety of ways to explore the combination of CBD with an active lifestyle. Don’t be afraid, if needed, to seek further guidance from a medical or fitness professional.

Consider practicing mental health routines, too. Be an active participant in your mental health and see how CBD supports that growth. All in all, an active lifestyle is ineffective if you aren’t also focused on other health and wellness aspects of your life at the same time.

Make the Most of CBD with Your Active Lifestyle

When combining the use of CBD with a solid active lifestyle routine, there’s no need to cut corners. You deserve the peace of mind that comes from knowing you’re making the most of your body’s overall wellness.
